March 7th - Day 323

This bus was at the head of the Reclaiming Birth March, organised as a response to the recent closure of the innovative and wonderous Albany Midwifery Practice (details of which at savethealbany.org.uk). Whilst the bus waited to set off from near the Imperial War Museum, two people on the top deck led the protesters in a rehearsal of one of the songs written especially for the march. Closer inspection (below) reveals them to be veteran kids' tv personality Peter Duncan and comedian Miles Jupp, better known to some as Archie in Balamory. I told Daisy that the man she couldn't really see, next to the other people she couldn't really see, was Archie in Balamory and maybe not surprisingly she didn't find this particularly interesting.
Below are some people joining in...
...and this is the song, to the tune of "It's a long way to Tipperary"...

It is no way to have a baby
On a conveyor belt
It is no way to have a baby
If only fear and pain is felt

How long's a normal labour?
How long's a piece of string?!

It is just no way to have a baby
With the clock tick-tocking

It is no way to have a baby
Without people you know
It is no way to have a baby
Feeling rushed - not safe and slow

Goodbye legs in stirrups
Farewell facing the wall
It is just no way to have a baby
It's not "one size fits all!"
