October 22nd - Day 187

After tonight's show we said goodbye to Toby, Angela and Mike at Camden Town tube. Angela told me she was looking forward to reading about the evening in the blog. The thing is, the more there is to write about, and tonight's Ballad of Britain concert at Cecil Sharp House was such an occasion, the less I write. It's like an important email you don't get around to doing, because you want to devote a bit of time and energy to it, like when you have to tell someone that a close friend has died, and you keep putting it off, then your friend misses the funeral, but they don't know they've missed it until they don't get a Christmas card and they ask you if so-and-so's alright and you say you're very sorry and you meant to tell them that they're dead, and then they get really angry and don't speak to you anymore and things generally get quite awkward.

A potted blog of the evening...

An event as much as a gig. Stephanie Hladowski. Exquisite folk voice. Sam Lee. Gillie Boys. Wicker Man-esque Jews Harp and fiddle. Shruti Box. Anthony Robertson. Ancient Gypsy songs. Gruff Rhys. Martin Carthy. Norma Waterson. Eliza Carthy. Surprise Guests (Anthony and Eliza). A privilege to be here tonight.
