August 14th - Day 118

The 100 Club and buskers-a-go-go. One of those days when there's so much to write that I'll wait until I get a decent stretch of time to write it and wind up writing nothing.
But (one month later) I will write that tonight was as good a night of quality cowpunk that you could get this side of Pikeville, Kentucky, brought to us by cowpunk/psychobilly purveyors Pronghorn (top) and Big Boy Tomato (middle)...and headliners Macavity's Cat, but I had to leave early in their set cos I was already an hour late.
On the way home I chatted to Vasha, playing saxophone in Chinatown. He told me he entertains clubbers in Piccadilly Circus early most mornings between one and four. He told me a lot actually, so I'm going to catch him again with the clubbers one morning and not count today.

October 2nd- Day 167

Grand Live Music Crawl Day. 33 performances of one kind or another I think was the final count. Heavy on buskers because, well, there's a lot of them about, but also because two scheduled performances didn't happen and it hadn't occured to me how big the queues would be to get into free live music venues in Shoreditch late on Friday night. Here's a few photos from the day.

October 23rd - Day 188

Yesterday it was folk legends. Today it was pub-rock, rhythm and blues legends. The Wilko Johnson Band features ex-Dr Feelgood Wilko Johnson, long-standing Blockheads bassist Norman Watt Roy and current Blockheads drummer, Dylan Howe. I last saw Wilko and Norman do their stuff in 1991 and have been trying and failing for many years to catch them again before they stop doing this music lark. Happily, they both look as fit as butcher's dogs and I think, thank the Lord, it'll be many a year before Wilko no longer skitters across the stage machine-gunning the audience (with a guitar) and Norman no longer dances and grunges his bass guitar like the devil's...the devil's...erm...the devil's bass guitarist.

April 15th - Day 362

This is The Sex Pistols Experience, sending The 100 Club hurtling back to 1976.

At the end of the evening they became Public Image Limited and were joined by original PIL (and early Clash) guitarist Keith Levene...

The musical likeness of both The Sex Pistols Experience and support act, Clash tribute band Rebel Truce, was spot on. Physically, in gestures and stances as much as looks, "Johnny" and "Sid" from the former and "Joe Strummer" from the latter were the stand-outs, Johnny in particular. At one point, however, Sid lost sneer concentration and turned into 50's rocker Joe Brown...
